do you have the audio jumper installed from your sound card to your video card?

If you check your audio options (control panel -> sound) I think you have to enable SPDIF output.

Though you have said you connected the cable and it says it recognizes it. Bt you may still have to enable it. Also check yor nVidia driver settings, you may have to enable it in there also. (sorry, I don't have experience with SPDIF or nVidia, so these are just general suggestions ad the first place i would look).

Good luck.

I fixed it. Had to plug the orange wire to "Ground" on my board and the black wire to "SPDIF OUT". Anyway it works great. I love the idea of audio on the same cable as video. Simplifies everything. Anyway thanks.

if you had a sound card that supported dolby digital live you'd be even more impressed. of course that also hinges on your home theater setup. with DDL you get 5.1 sound from games over hdmi, normally this isn't possible because the sound card needs to re-encode the 5.1 sound from the game into a digital signal to send over the spdif. with dvd's this isn't an issue since they're pre-encoded.

some cards support DDL via an extra hardware encoder, but creative actually recently released a beta driver and application to use DDL on cards without hardware support. i ssume it's using your cpu to do the encoding, but it doesn't seem to impact performance any.

without it i believe you're mostly stuck with stereo sound, i actually couldn't even get 5.1 from dvd's over my gtx280 prior to the DDL app and beta drivers, not sure what was wrong there.

not saying you should buy new hardware or anything, but if you're going to be using your pc and tv together a great deal and have a good home theater setup it might really be worth the upgrade.

btw it's a bitstream so you'll need a receiver capable of decoding dolby digital.

LOL i made this thread a long time ago. Not until now do i really know what DDL is. I bought a nice home theater system with digital coaxial and optical inputs. I decided to try it out. Low and behold outputting on the Digital Out using a 3.5" mono rca plug to an RCA cable. It was stuck in stereo! Very annoying. Anyway so i guess now i'm going to have to buy the DDL pack from creative? I'm running a Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum OEM. It doesn't have SPDIF pins on it etc for the CD SPDIF. Could i use the CD SPDIF inputs on the Audigy from my GTX260 to get sound through HDMI?

thanks
